A Day in the Garden with Jardine Hansen
Le Sac is delighted to feature Jardine Hansen in our A Day in the Garden series.
An ardent love of plants and flowers took root in Jardine’s childhood, wandering through rambling gardens with her grandmother, mispronouncing botanical names. Now an events florist based in Blackheath, NSW, she brings that same wonder and romance to her work, creating layered, textured arrangements that celebrate the spontaneity of the garden. With a deep respect for seasonality, she favours locally grown flowers and foliage, ensuring her creations reflect the beauty of the moment.

A day in Jardine’s garden, especially during flower arranging season, begins early – often by 5 or 6am. Snips in hand, coffee barely needed, she steps into the cool morning, gathering dewy blooms before the heat of the day. Flowers are popped immediately into deep buckets of fresh water, preserving their freshness and vitality.
After a simple breakfast – usually porridge – Jardine gets to work prepping for her events. As an events florist with a deep respect for the flowers she works with, she chooses to arrange foam-free, using chicken wire in her vases to support her stems. It’s a little more work but far kinder to both the flowers and the planet – a philosophy woven through everything she does.
The morning is spent arranging for weddings and celebrations – delicate bouquets, abundant ceremony arrangements, and thoughtful buttonholes – with the larger pieces often finished in the gentle light of the afternoon, when the flowers are perfectly blowsy and open, brimming with personality.
By late afternoon, there's a quiet satisfaction in the air. Deliveries are double-checked, timelines confirmed, and arrangements fine-tuned. Every petal, every frond, carries the story of the garden it grew in, and the loving hands that gathered it.

Jardine’s garden isn’t just a place where flowers grow. It’s a living, breathing tapestry of lessons, friendships, seasons, and small daily joys – a place where life’s big truths are learned slowly, quietly, and beautifully, one bloom at a time.
